William is, to date, the earliest proven ancestor of the Collingwoods, who appear to have lived in Whittingham for several generations. The poor condition of pre-1700 registers for this place may explain why William’s baptism cannot be found, but there are certainly other possibilities to be considered.
While our line did not move, others lived in Alnwick and then moved further south to Middlesbrough.
The Atkinson Family of Lorbottle House are distantly related to these Collingwoods through a female line. Our ancestor, Elizabeth Collingwood, worked for the Atkinsons. We wonder if she knew she was related!
In our attempts to find our earlier Collingwood ancestors, we have gathered many facts pertaining to other families of this name. We are happy to use this information to help other researchers. A list of the many found can be seen on our website www.usmk.co.uk
